The 2024 Annual Museum Exhibition focuses on a major theme of mythological figures. Mythological figures are creatures whose existence is narrated in folklores, legends, and fables. These figures appear in various forms of art and ornamentation, such as classical, contemporary, and modern. In art and ornamentation, mythological figures are usually depicted in zoomorphic, anthropomorphic, and hybrid forms. Talking about mythological figures cannot be separated from the myths that surround them, and a mythological narrative often contains symbolic aspects and socio-cultural values. The visual of mythological figures sometimes also holds symbolic aspects or contains symbolic representations. It can also be said that the iconography of mythological figures has symbolic meanings. This exhibition presents various visualizations of mythological figures or imaginary creatures based on the collections owned by Sonobudoyo Museum and guest museums. It aims to present visualizations of mythological figures in various forms of art and ornamentation; to understand the roles, functions, and cultural values of the myth or mythology surrounding each mythological figure; and to examine the symbolic aspects and meanings of mythological figures existence in the socio-cultural order of society. The exhibition also touches on the aspect of sustainability, especially concerning ecological issues and nature preservation. In the modern era, the existence of a myth often intersects with issues of nature preservation, creating harmony and continuity between cultural heritage and environmental challenges. From an ecological perspective, the existence of myths has a significant influence on nature preservation. In the context of the relationship between humans and nature, myths serve as a medium for nature conservation because they can provide knowledge about nature and its impact on human life. This relationship benefits humans in preserving nature for the sustainability of human life. In the context of cultural sustainability, this exhibition is a platform and ongoing effort for the maintenance and preservation of various forms of cultural heritage. This is crucial because cultural sustainability is a fundamental issue and a requirement that must be met on the journey towards development sustainability
