The 5th Little Puppeter Festival 2015 was officially opened by Prof. Dr. Rochmat Wahab, M.Pd, MA, the Rector of State University Of Yogyakarta (UNY), at Monday night (11th May 2015). In his speech, he said that festival is a way to conserve national culture valve. The opening of this festival was marked by the Rector of UNY, cutting ribbon and painting puppet ceremony. Then, there was puppet theater which performed by Mr. Seto Mulyadi, the children counselor.
This festival was held for the 51th anniversary of UNY. It will be held at 12,13,14, and 16 May 2015 start from 08.00 a.m – 04.00 p.m in Museum’s Area. This little puppeter festival is followed by 45 little puppeter (elementary and junior high school student) from many Indonesia’s region.
Beside, there is also Puppet Painting Competition held on Tuesday, May 12th, 2015 and Puppet Exhibition archipelago which can be seen on 12, 13, 14 and May 16, 2015 in Museum Education Indonesia UNY.
This activity as one of the efforts to preserve the national culture and to instill values - good moral values to children early. In addition, the puppet is considered as one of the most appropriate media for learning.
State Museum Sonobudoyo participated by exhibiting a collection of Chinese Javanese Puppets (Wacinwa). Wacinwa is a form of cross-culture of China and Java. Wacinwa created by Gan Thwan Sing in Yogyakarta in 1925. Now a day, there are only 2 sets of Wacinwa in the world. One set is stored in the Museum of Sonobudoyo and a set of longer stored in Uberlingen (Bodensee, Germany) belonging to Dr. Walter Angst.
