Pétungan Laku ing Mangsa; Understanding the Sky and Natural Signs through Traditional Javanese Calendar Boards

Ayu Dipta Kirana, Aliffia Marsha Nadhira

About Publication

Traditional Javanese calendar systems, such as pranatamangsa, pawukon, and the use of papan sangatan, reflect the Javanese people's knowledge of natural phenomena and celestial movements, as well as their understanding of the relationship between humans and their environment. Timekeeping serves not only to mark the days but also as a guide for conducting daily life (laku) and maintaining harmony among humans, nature, and God. However, the knowledge and skills required to read and understand these calendar systems face challenges in being passed down from one generation to the next. In this context, collection research is important not only for documenting objects and the knowledge associated with them but also for supporting the continuity of this knowledge.
